Teamsters President Sean O’Brien engages in a frank discussion with Trump ahead of the Iowa caucuses
The leader of the Teamsters, in a revealing disclosure, shared insights from his “straight-talking” meeting with former President Donald Trump, as the union remains uncommitted in its endorsement for the 2024 presidential race.
Sean O’Brien, the head of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, described his encounter with Trump on “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” as a no-nonsense exchange where both parties laid their agendas on the table.
“His words were that he’s completely behind unions, although we do have some reservations based on his past actions,” O’Brien commented.
The meeting with O’Brien came shortly before the Iowa caucuses, where Trump, as the leading Republican contender, achieved an impressive win.
In a post on social media, O’Brien acknowledged Trump’s willingness to hear out the Teamsters on their key concerns.
The Teamsters’ top man emphasized that they discussed complaints received about Trump’s alleged hesitation in compensating former employees.
In his conversation with host Neil Cavuto, O’Brien noted that Trump reassured him of his commitment to workers and job creation, a stance Trump has consistently held throughout his political career.
“One thing we’re adept at, regardless of the election’s outcome, is being the moral compass for any candidate we back or not, ensuring they stay true to their promises and actions,” O’Brien stated.
O’Brien affirmed his commitment to thoroughly vetting candidates before the Teamsters make an endorsement for 2024.
“Speaking solely for the Teamsters union,” O’Brien declared, “we’re not going to succumb to any external pressure to back one candidate over another. We’re aware of the mounting pressure for an endorsement. Our approach will be consistent with our long-standing tradition,” he asserted.
